Sutton United boss Paul Doswell is struggling to single out one game in the new National League fixture list that stands out.

It is not because there are no big names or no heightened excitement at Wednesday’s release of the fixtures.

It is more because every game offers something different and exciting in its own right.

The season starts at home to Solihull Moors on August 6, ahead of trips to Forest Green Rovers – who beat AFC Wimbledon in last year’s FA Cup – and Lincoln City.

Doswell said: “It is nice to be at home first, and there is some intrigue as it’s the winners of the National South against winners of the National North.

“Then you look at the five away games on the trot [Forest Green, Lincoln, Chester, Gateshead, Wrexham], and they are probably the teams with the biggest budgets and the ones expected to do very well. So it’s a tough start.”

He added: “Tranmere Rovers at home in September is possibly the stand-out, but it’s all of them really.

“You think of Dagenham and York City. When you look at the teams in there you think ‘wow’. They are great sounding names.”

Ahead of the real action, United’s pre-season schedule starts this weekend with the visit of Fulham to Gander Green Lane.

There follows visits from Portsmouth (July 16), Crystal Palace XI (July 23), Ebbsfleet United (July 30) and Tonbridge Angels (August 2), as well as trips to Kingstonian (July 20) and Hampton & Richmond Borough (July 26).
