Epsom & Ewell maintained their unbeaten record in the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League last Saturday with a 1-1 home draw against AFC Hayes.

It was a fair resuit, but the Salts will be a little disappointed to lose a lead against hard working solid opponents.

Their rivals at the top of the league, Hartley Wintney and Ashford Town, maintained their 100 per cent starts so manager Glyn Mandeville's men dropped from second to third in the table.

Epsom took the lead when Rob Hendry's shot was parried by the Hayes keeper and midfielder Matt Farrell fired home the rebound.

It was a game when defences were largely on top, though Epsom had a number of chances to extend their lead, particularly when Dale Marvell fired narrowly wide when one on one with the keeper.

Hayes equalised when a through ball landed between Epsom's defence and onrushing keeper Micheal Eacott.

The Hayes forward took the ball beyond Eacott and rolled the ball into the corner of the Epsom net beyond the despairing stretch of defender Matt Tanton on the line.

Epsom continue their push for the top of the league against Farnham Town at home (at Chipstead FC) on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
