Carshalton Athletic manager Matt Howard has challenged his squad to "grow up" after back-to-back home defeats.

Despite goals from Dan Summers, via the penalty spot, and Ricky Korboa giving the Robins a healthy half-time lead against Worthing on Saturday, a last-minute Brannon O'Neill header capped a spirited 3-2 comeback by the visitors.

And Howard, who presides over the team currently sitting 15th in the Ryman Division One South table, believes a "long, tough season will lay ahead" if things don't improve.

He said: "We were two up at the break, in control of the game for long periods and we hit the woodword three times throughout, so some may consider us simply unlucky, but I don't.

"I have some fantastic footballers at my disposal, but I think we suffer from a weak mentality, so things will have to change and I'm not adverse to making tough decisions."

Howard believes all of Worthing's goals could have been prevented had his players not been caught either ball watching, leaving opponents unmarked or trying to overplay.

Bright start: Dan Summers, number nine, is mobbed after his penalty sent Robins on the way to a 2-0 lead over Worthing, then it all went wrong

"The players must learn, when things aren't going our way, to become hard to break down," he added.

"We've lost leads twice in a row now and that scenario cannot continue."

Carshalton travel to eighth-placed Faversham Town this Tuesday evening before hosting Ryman Premier outfit East Thurrock United in the FA Cup on Saturday.

"We are talented enough to win both upcoming games, but I've got decisions to make and they might upset a few people," said Howard.

"I knew this would be a tough job when I took it but I'll sink or swim doing it my way."

The Robins kick-off against Faversham on Tuesday at 7.45pm.
