Rob Scantlebury has stepped down as boss of Carshalton Athletic.

The Robins academy coach took over from Stuart Massey in November with the club languishing in the bottom three of the Ryman Divison One South table.

Scantlebury was tasked with saving the Robins' Ryman League status, and his reign started well with six wins in his first 11 games in charge and the Robins began to fly away from the dropzone.

However, one win in the next 14 games left them 20th in the table - safe by just three points.

He said: "It's time for a fresh face to take over and help the first team push on next season.

"I’ve done what was asked of me and I am now looking forward to my next challenge at Colston Avenue.”

Chairman Paul Dipre said: "For someone who took up their first senior role within Ryman football I couldn't have asked for any more.

"We have a well-organised, motivated squad which is now a few players away from being good enough to mount a challenge next season, and that's down to Rob and his management team.

"We have already had discussions with prospective successors and will be making an announcement in due course.”
