Hampton & Richmond Borough skipper Kieran Murphy has told team-mates they must take responsibility for securing Ryman Premier league safety.

The beavers bounced back from last wednesday’s 3-2 defeat at Grays Athletic with a battling 2-2 draw against high-flying Hendon on Saturday.

They needed two goals from club legend Charlie Moone – the second in the 85th minute, to grab a share of the spoils and maintain their good form against side’s in the division’s top five.

Moone’s second was his 101st goal for the club and he only the fourth player in the Beavers’ history to pass the century milestone.

Hampton are two places and five points above the drop zone and Murphy reckoned there was plenty of work to do.

“There is no-one else to get us out of trouble. It is down to us,” he said last week.

“It is getting tight down the bottom and we have got to get the wins on the board.

“We have started to look a little more solid and a little more settled recently.

“But we have to start winning games to get clear and no-one else is going to do that but us.”

Boss Alan Dowson, who hailed Moone’s contribution, has targeted three wins from their remaining nine games to secure safety.

"This is now the strongest squad of players Ih have had since I’ve been here,” he added ahead of Saturday’s trip to East Thurrock united.

“Charlie is getting the headlines and there is no bigger fan of him than me.

“If you have a goalscorer of his quality in your side you have a chance.

“I think we need nine points to be safe.”
