Defender Matt Drage was the unlikely hero as his spectacular winner gave Hampton & Richmond Borough a first win since November to give their Ryman Premier League survival hopes a boost on Saturday.

Drage curled home from 20 yards in the 91st minute for a 2-1 triumph over fellow strugglers Harrow Borough after Mark Onyemah levelled matters in the 87th minute to complete a dramatic fight back at the Beveree.

Had Hampton not won, referee Paul Howard would not have been a popular man after awarding a controversial penalty that had allowed Nik Salapatas the opportunity to put Harrow in front on the stroke of half time.

The fact Michael Bryan – the Harrow player fouled by Drage for the spot kick – lined the ball up for a free kick a yard outside the box was lost on the man in black.

The goal was one of only three shots on goal of any credibility from Harrow for the entire 90 minutes and came in a first half that featured only four noteworthy efforts in total.

Midfielder James Simmonds  - with a deflected effort – and a fine Jake Rose effort from distance were the only players to test Harrow keeper Nicky Jupp in the second half until Onyemah and Drage struck.

Had Beavers keeper Mark Smith, on loan from Championship side Brentford, not made a sharp stops from Harrow skipper Carl McClusky and Raheem Sterling-Parker - on 70 and 83 minutes  respectively - might have already been dead and buried.
