Carshalton Athletic served up a Christmas cracker on Saturday as they came from behind to beat South Park 5-3.

During the second-half of a game that had eight goals, a hat-trick and a sending off, a 10-minute spell saw The Robins hit three goals while displaying some fine attacking football.

The win moves the Robins up to 16th in the Ryman Division One South table ahead of a New Year’s Day derby against Tooting & Mitcham United.

Boss Rob Scantlebury said: “The word ‘responsibility’ was on my mind at the end because we need to do some of the basics a bit better.

“That said, we had a patched up defence today and so it'll be my job to ensure some of the younger players don't focus on the negatives.”

Carshalton went ahead through Jordan Clarke’s 18-yard free kick but South Park scored either side of a red card for their defender Jack Stafford before the end of the first-half.

Mickel Miller, Bobby Price and Sean O’Toole all scored before the hour mark however, before a Tommy Bradford penalty in stoppage time sealed the final result.

“Our front five have the potential to be the best in this division, I really believe that,” Scantlebury added.

“I fear for the side that faces us when they really click into gear because we’ve only seen flashes of what they can do as a unit.”

The trip to Tooting will be Scantlebury’s first return to the club where he started both his own playing and coaching careers.

“It’ll be an honour for me to return there as manager of Carshalton. I learnt my trade there and I know the make-up of the club, so it’s going to be an interesting afternoon,” he added.
