Richard Brady is enduring an “unprecedented” struggle against injuries and suspensions as Leatherhead’s season limps on.

Tanners were knocked out of the FA Trophy last weekend at lower league Burgess Hill Town in a game where Brady says he was missing eight regular first team players.

On Tuesday night, Tanners lost 3-2 at Harrow Borough, leaving them six points above the drop zone and win only two wins from the past seven games.

Missing from mid-week were the suspended Joe Bruce, and the injured Jerry Nnamani, Stacy Long and Adam Green.

None of the quartet were also available for the FA Trophy defeat, but Brady’s problems did not stop there.

“Louis Wells [keeper] dropped because of work, so I brought a keeper from the Chelsea U21 set-up,” Brady said.

“Then he cried-off sick on Friday night, so I had to a youngster in [Max Huster] and he gave away the penalty when we were 2-0 up that changed the game.

“We were also without Kev Terry and I was left with a squad of 13 players.”

He added: “It probably sounds like excuses, but these are the facts we’re dealing with.

“I’ve not been able to put out the same side for about eight weeks, and that inconsistency of selection leads to inconsistency in results.

“It is difficult to be critical of players who are going out there.

“I’ve got a right winger playing right back, and a left back playing in centre defence, they’re doing the best they can.

“I’ve not known anything like this is in my time as a manager, it’s unprecedented, but we’ll get through it, as a manager and a team, that is all you can do.

“I think that in 10 days or so we should start seeing a change.”

Brady has been scouring the land to find replacements, but despite seeing one deal already fall through, he is not about to be rash.

He said: “It is a case of getting people in to plug the gaps, but we have a budget we need to stick to.

“I am hopeful of getting a couple of new names in soon, but in this game nothing is ever simple.

“For the time being, I will field the best side I can.”

Tanners go to Kingstonian this weekend, with their hosts also needing to find some consistency of form.

Under former Carshalton Athletic boss Tommy Williams, Ks have won twice in the past nine games, and they sit just two points ahead of Tanners in 14th.
