He has come up against Ronaldo at Old Trafford, and now Adam Green has been brought in to shore up the Leatherhead defence.

Tanners boss Richard Brady recruited the 30-year-old left back from Dartford last week as part of a reshuffle aimed at arresting a run of one win in nine Ryman Premier League games.

And it paid immediate dividends after the Tanners beat Wingate & Finchley 2-0 at Fetcham Grove last weekend, thanks a to Carl Rook brace.

Brady said: “I wanted to change the shape of the defence as we’ve been too easy to penetrate.

“Adam [Green’s] arrival was part of that and he brings that real experience from more than 300 first team appearances.

“I call him a proper left back, who defends first.

“We’ve played Ryan [Dalby] at left back, and he likes to get forward more, but we needed to hold our shape.”

Green who made eight appearances for Fulham, was in the side beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in the FA Cup in 2004 against the likes of the Portuguese superstar, as well as Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored both goals, and Ryan Giggs.

Brady added: “They may have got beaten, but it’s not bad having that in your career.”

He added: “Against Wingate we started off with possession and we held them at bay, and then penetrated them for the goals.

“It was a funny one, it is normally us who dominate, especially at home, and then get beaten by the sucker punch.

“But at the end of the day, we needed three points at home as that has not happened for a while.”

This weekend, Leatherhead go to money-bags Margate, who have recently strengthened their offering with the signing of Jamie Taylor from Sutton United.

Brady said: “We’re not expected to win, but that’s fine.

“We’re in a no lose situation, if we lose, that’s expected, if we win, that’s not expected.

“I’d rather go there as underdogs and not have the pressure, besides we have players who have played at a level above too.”
