It is not often boss Richard Brady allows himself a moment of delight, but even he declared himself “happy” after the Tanners won promotion to the Ryman Premier League.

Leatherhead and Folkestone Invicta could not be separated after 120 minutes of football after Tom Bradbrook’s goal was cancelled out at the Fullicks stadium by Paul Booth.

Up stepped Tanners keeper Deren Ibrahim to make a brace of saves as Brady’s men prevailed 3-1.

The boss said: “It’s all a bit mad really when you think that 47-odd league games comes down to a penalty shoot-out.

“The repercussions of a penalty miss were huge, it’s really a form of Russian roulette, we were the fortunate ones.”

He added: “You cannot celebrate a win like that, and there was not much I could say to Neil [Cugley, Folkestone manager].

“They had played well, we were just happy to come through it.”

Tanners were last promoted to the top tier of the Ryman League in 2011, but their stay was curtailed to just one season following relegation straight back down.

But Brady believes they have what it takes to avoid a similar fate.

Brady said: “I came into the club 10 games into that Ryman Premier season, so hopefully we can do better this time round.

“I’ll give the players a chance to prove themselves, although being at a higher level means we can attract bigger names. We’ll see how it goes.”

Bradbrook ended the season with 37 goals in all competitions, leading to wholesome praise from Brady.

“Bradders was my player of the season,” he said.

“He has been quality and his goal-scoring record is second to none. He deserves all the plaudits he gets.”
