Walton Casuals boss Mark Hams has scotched any talk of a Ryman Division One South play-off surge.

The Stags recovered from last week’s desperate 5-1 defeat to Walton & Hersham with a 5-0 win at Crawley Down Gatwick on Saturday and Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Chipstead.

Six different scorers found the net in the two games with Liam Collins and Gabriel Odunaike netting two each.

Hams’ men are six points from fifth place with nine games still to play, but the Waterside Drive chief is simply happy to break new ground at the club in his first season at the helm.

“We won’t make the play-offs, I’m telling you that now,” he said.

“We’ve have won four out of our last five, but we will not make the play-offs.

“How can a team with a goal difference of minus one be sat where we are in the league? It is ridiculous. That is why we will not get there.”

He added: “I was more pleased with the Chipstead win than any of the other games, because they are a well organised side.

“We have now secured the most number of wins at this level than the club has achieved before and we have set a new record for the number of points.”
