Striker Charlie Moone has not given hope on Ryman Premier League play-off spot because history says finishing in the top five is still on.

Joint boss Paul Barry saw his men crash 2-0 at home Leiston on Saturday to leave them a whopping 16 points behind fifth-placed AFC Hornchurch.

The Beavers, who have two games or more in hand on many of their rivals, are without a win since February 4 – due largely to a flurry of postponements.

But with 16 games still to be squeezed into the final two months of the season, Moone has urged his teammates to finish the campaign in style and see where it takes them.

“The pressure is off us,” he said.

“No one is looking at us as challengers, so we need to quietly go about our business and get the points on the board.

“There are still a lot of games to play. I remember one year at Woking where we were way down the league and won our last 11 games and that took us into the play-offs.

“It is a long shot, but we have to believe it is still possible.”

Moone is contracted until the end of the season – with an option to extend the deal in the summer – and he assured fans he will be around next season, if the club require his services.

“It is far from sorted out, but I’m more than happy to be here, if the club still want me,” he added.

“Paul and Darren [Powell] are building something. It is not just about one season.

“Alan Devonshire nearly got the club to the Conference Premier because he kept a team together for six years and that is the plan now.”
