Dowson: Ks are giving promotion everything

Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has added a fresh injection to his squad in order not to waste the chance of Ryman Premier League promotion this term.
 

The Kingsmeadow chief is expected to complete a move to sign Sutton United man Steve Old on dual registration terms before the weekend, after Satuday’s 1-0 defeat at Hendon.
 

Ks currently sit ninth in the table, but are only three points off second place with 22 games of the campaign remaining.
 

Dowson has been in this position before both with Ks and former club Walton & Hersham and knows from experience the benefit of freshening up his squad for the run-in.
 

“The pitch was awful, we were awful and the ref was awful at the weekend, but at the same time I don’t think we had anyone out there prepared to roll up their sleeves and dig out a win,” he said.
 

“That is what we need at this stage of the season.
 

“We are looking at one opr two options at the moment because we are three points off second place and we do not want to waste this chance.
 

“We are going to give it a right go this season to get promoted and to do that one or two will be going and one or two will be coming in, just to freshen things up.”
 

Christian Jolley’s move to Newport County from AFC Wimbledon should give Dowson – whose side host Lowestoft Town on Saturday – a small financial kick back at the right time.
 

But he has warned fans not to expect miracles.
 

“Every penny you get in at our level is crucial to the survival of the club,” he added.
 

“I know we’ll get a bit from the Jolley deal but I also know it is not a lot to play with either.”

Meanwhile, Ks may have lost  1-0  at Hendon on Saturday, but keeper Rob Tolfrey left north-west London short of a little more than three points.

Striker Wade Small’s late red card was not the only thing to compound boss Alan Dowson’s misery as Tolfrey returned to his car after the game to find a smashed window.
 

“It has been a bad day at the office,” said the boss.
 

“It was a poor game, played on a poor pitch and you’ve just got to push it to one side and move on to next week.
 

“There are 21 games to go and we’re still in a hunt.”
 

Ks host Ryman Premier League promotion rivals Lowestoft Town on Saturday.
