Crystal Palace are celebrating a double dose of recognition after Dougie Freedman and Glenn Murray picked up the nPower Championship manager and player of the month awards for September.

The awards come on the back of an unbeaten month where five games brought in 13 points for the boss, and six goals, including a hat-trick, for his striking compatriot.

Freedman said: "I'm the leader of the club and it's me that picks up the awards but not necessarily myself who does all the hard work, the players have put in a lot of effort on the training ground and they're reaping the rewards from that. I like to see this as a reward for the club although I pick it up.

"I don't set out to win these awards and I don't have sleepless nights about them. It's a little bonus for us and gets us some recognition in the papers."

Murray, who banged in a hat-trick to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Cardiff, said: "I'm really pleased, obviously we've had a really great month as a team so it's very nice to be awarded. The highlight of the month for me would be scoring the winner against Bolton, even though it was a penalty it was an important goal for us."
