Despite coming back from 2-0 down to beat Burnley 4-3 on Saturday, Eagles boss Dougie Freedman conceded he was disappointed in his defence.

While the Selhurst faithful were delighting in yet another scintilating Palace performance, including two more Wilfired Zaha strikes, Freedman was troubled over the concession of three goals.

But the Scot also admitted their new "expansive" style of play was not perfectly matched to keeping clean sheets - something Palace have only managed twice in 12 games.

Freedman said: "I was disappointed to concede three goals, that’s the first thing I’d like to put right.

"I felt the way we can perform and have been performing that it was not a perfect day for us. But having said that, we have a tremendous work ethic and a great togetherness."

"After the three games in a week and the amount of physical effort that was put in, I cannot complain because it was definitely a good show on Saturday in terms of the result."

He added: "Sorting out the defence will take time – we’ve lost Nathaniel Clyne and Anthony Gardner, and now Paddy McCarthy.

"The defence can only play well as a unit and we’re missing some of the back four so we’re trying to put it together.

"There is no secret remedy, it is from the training ground that you get successful defending and we are certainly working very hard on it."

Despite the need to fine-tune the defence, Freedman is not willing to discard the Eagles' attacking flair that has seen them soar up the Championship table.

He said: "We’re a little bit more expansive with our two wingers in the team. They are positive in what they do. We sometimes have Owen Garvan or Moritz in the hole, so it is a very attacking formation.

"It improves your chances of winning but increase your chances of losing, and fortunately we’re picking up three points, which is great."
