Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman may have been stripped of some prized assets this summer, but you will not see him complaining.

The Eagles’ campaign kicks off with the visit of Watford to Selhurst Park on Saturday and while Freedman relishes the challenge, he is mindful of the financial constraints he is under compared to some of the club’s big spending rivals.

Sean Scannell, Darren Ambrose, Anthony Gardner and Nathaniel Clyne all left the club this summer, and Freedman says he needs at least two more players to plug the gaps.

But  finding the right player, at the right time and at the right price has proved tricky.

“We want to bring some more players in, but it is very difficult for the club,” Freedman said.

“We always lose out financially – there are teams like Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday who have come up and spent a lot of money. The teams that have come down have the parachute money.

“In a financial battle we are going to lose out, but we’re looking around to see what is best for the club and falls within our financial bracket.

“You’ll never see me complaining about how teams can spend money and just take your players away, like Nathanial Clyne. That is the name of the game. You just battle away and give your best under the financial
disadvantage.”

Palace finished 17th in the Championship last season, but Freedman is not concerned  where they finish providing they are not relegated and can bring youngsters through from the academy.

Freedman said: “There have been some shaky times over the past few years. Last year we cemented that we are a Championship side and to continue that has to be the aim.

“There is no magic wand I can wave and have two fantastic strikers that will score 30 goals each. Fans can have their say, but I have to be
realistic.

“The most important thing is for us to get our house in order. Are we done signing players? I think not, hopefully, there will be some more coming in.

“It is not easy to get the right guys at the right time at the right price. But if we can get our house in order and then we don’t have to worry about the other teams.”
