A group of lifelong Crystal Palace fans have recorded their own anthem celebrating the highs and lows of their home team as the Eagles storm towards the FA Cup final.

Builders by day, Young Stanley hope their new song will make it to Wembley Stadium when Crystal Palace take on Manchester United later this month.

The quartet, made up of childhood friends Rod and Paul Aylen, Jay Cranstoun and Mark Snelgrove, each played their part in creating the song with help from Rod’s daughter, Joely who put together the video.

But it’s not the first time the band have been musically inspired by the Beautiful Game.

In 2010 they recorded Sing It for England to celebrate the nation’s World Cup journey, which saw them travel to Germany to perform and the video watched by more than 500,000 people.

After Palace’s success against Watford in the semi-finals, Rod – the brains behind the operation – decided to pen a new song to support his home team.

The other Palace fans in the band were keen to be involved, with Mark the drumming plumber on drums, Rod taking charge of the lead vocals and Paul and Jay singing the chorus.

Bricklayer Jay, from Bromley Common, said it would be a dream to hear it sung by fans at Wembley.

Since its release last week the video has had over 4,000 views on YouTube.

The 49-year-old told News Shopper: “If you listen to the words of the song, it’s basically about nostalgia.

“We’ve supported them all our life, we can count on our hand the amount of good times we have had – getting to the FA cup in 1992, getting to the FA cup now.

“It’s the highs and lows, there has been a lot of lows.”

Jay said Palace winning is the ultimate goal, adding: “It’s like we said when we recorded it, to have however many thousands of people singing it at Wembley stadium would be the icing on the cake.”

The group hopes the tune’s catchy hook will get fans singing “we’re red and blue, who are you?” when they pile into Wembley on May 21.

“It’s getting a really good response, we’d love it to be sung at Wembley,” said Jay.

“It got quite a catchy chorus that fans can really latch on to.”

He added: “We’re getting the same feeling we did when we did the England one.”
