Yannick Bolasie’s goal in the 1-1 at Arsenal is significant for the Crystal Palace manager for more reasons than one.

Alan Pardew reckons that the Premier League point won Sunday takes them out of reach of the bottom four and secures their safety.

However, he also acknowledged that the goal probably meant more because of who scored it.

Bolasie had not found the back of the net since November, and according to Pardew had been suffering the effects.

“The goal was a good goal, and from our point of view it was maybe very significant because Yala looked a little bit down,” he said.

“May be it was through a lack of goals or the lack of a ‘moment’, so that goal will have given him a major lift because he is a big player for us.

“He really needed to catch it right to get it in at the near post, you could argue that Petr [Cech] should have saved it, but it was a fair hit when may be the keeper was expecting it to go the other side.”

He added: “It was a timely goal, and an important point for us because two of the teams below us have to get 40 points and with our goal difference it will be difficult for them.

“So we can breathe a little easier and look forward to the FA Cup semi-final.

“But we can also look forward, with that point, to getting towards mid-table which is where I think we belong.”
