Crystal Palace’s Pammy McRoberts goes into this weekend’s FA Cup clash with West Ham United looking for revenge.

The two sides meet at Hayes Lane in Bromley on Sunday (kick-off 1pm) with a place in the third round up for grabs.

Palace are the underdogs with the Hammers plying their trade in the Southern Division of the Premier League, one level above the Eagles.

And when the sides met in the Premier League Cup in August, the Hammers ran out 3-0 winners.

However, the tables may have turned as Palace are now sitting pretty at the top of South East Division One having won 10 of 11 games, while the Hammers have won just once in five games that included a 7-0 whipping at Portsmouth.

McRoberts said: “Because of the cup defeat, the girls are quite determined and up for the game to show them that we can beat them.

“We’re excited, they are in a higher league than us and it’s a bit of a challenge.

“We’re not expected to win, but at the same time we want to be playing in that league next season, so it’s a good test for us.

“It is also a marker against how far we have come this season, having played them right at the start.”

The 29-year-old added: “West Ham are the favourites, but they are not doing too well at the moment so maybe the pressure is on them, while we have nothing to lose.”

McRoberts’ journey in football began aged 16 at Millwall, before a five-year stint at Charlton Athletic ended when the right back began a family.

She returned to action this season, and it has been a whirlwind as she has already become the first Palace lady to be selected for international duty, as well as being in pole position for promotion.

Moreover, before the end of 2015, McRoberts ticked off a personal goal that had been haunting here since the start of the season.

“As a wing back, I have set up a fair few goals, but I do need to get on the scoresheet more,” the William Hill bookie said.

“I told the girls that I had to get on the scoresheet because there was no way I was finishing the year without a goal.

“We played Bedford last month and went 1-0 down, but then Abby [Igbavboa] equalised.

“Then I scored a diving header, my first ever header in my career, and all the girls ambushed me because they knew how desperate I was to score.”

The Eagles went on to beat Bedford 10-1, and it turned out to be their last action before this weekend’s FA Cup clash.

It all means that McRoberts and her team-mates are in fine form to overturn the Hammers, and to make the most of the magic of the FA Cup.

She said: “The Women’s FA Cup has exactly the same effect on the players as the men’s competition does on the men.

“There’s the rush of getting a draw against a better team with better players that you don’t normally come up against, going to nicer stadiums.

“We’re in good form, and there can always be an upset.”
