Former Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce believes Patrick Bamford’s decision to terminate his loan contract at Crystal Palace was ‘sensible’.

Bamford joined the Eagles on a season-long loan deal in the summer, but announced after Monday’s 0-0 draw with Swansea that he was leaving the club.

The striker, who excelled at Middlesbrough last season, grew frustrated by a lack of opportunities at Selhurst Park in his first stint of Premier League football.

Pearce, who played over 400 games for Forest and represented Newcastle, West Ham and Manchester City as a player, believes Bamford made the right decision.

“I think it’s a sensible decision by him not to stay at Palace for the rest of the season doing what he’s doing,” Pearce told talkSPORT.

“This move for him, from what I’m seeing and from the amount of minutes he’s playing, has not been a good move.

“I would think he would be loaned out somewhere else to the Championship and have another six months there again.

“There would be a whole queue of about 16, 18, 20 teams that would take Bamford.”
