Crystal Palace new record signing Yohan Cabaye says he put pen to paper because he believes the Eagles can challenge the top eight of the Premier League.

The 29-year-old midfielder’s move to the Eagles was confirmed this morning (Friday) after he spent yesterday undergoing a medical, although it is still subject to international clearance.

Cabaye, a French international with 34 caps, played under Pardew at Newcastle United, before a more to Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain in January 2014.

That relationship with Pardew was another reason why Cabaye opted for the move back to England, as well as a faith in his new team-mates.

He told cpfc.co.uk: “"I know the gaffer and have worked with him before and I’m confident with him. I want to do my best for him because he’s made a big effort to get me to come here, as well as the chairman, so I have to say a big thank you to both of them.”

“I wanted to come and play for Palace because there are some really strong players here. They finished very well last season and I think they can compete to get into the top eight. “

He added: “I’m happy to be here. I’ve been waiting for the decision, had the medical and now I can’t wait to focus on my new team, a new season and my new life.”
