Crystal Palace captain Mile Jedinak has urged the club to end the uncertainty at Selhurst Park by appointing a new boss as soon as possible.

The  club has been under intense media spotlight since  Tony Pulis quit the job just 48 hours before the opening day defeat at Arsenal.

Malky Mackay looked certain to land the role last week before racist, sexist and homophobic text messages exchanged with ex-Eagles sporting director Iain Moody during their time working together at Cardiff became public to end both men’s Selhurst career prospects.

But for skipper Jedinak, the priority now has to be ending the media soap opera and getting a replacement for Pulis installed as soon as possible.

The Australian said: “The club has to make a decision and I think everyone would like that (to be made quickly) just so that we know.

“But we understand more than most that these decisions can take time as well.

“It’s not been ideal.

“Good or bad, people can say what they want, but we’ve still got a job to do.

“These are the circumstances we’ve been dealt and we have to get on with it as professionals.”

The Eagles slumped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to West Ham on Saturday to continue a dismal start to the season which has produced two defeats since the loss of Pulis.

Jedinak, though, believes the squad are resilient enough to bounce back from the past week, but insists that they need to learn the lessons of Saturday’s defeat if they are to do so.

He explained: “The character of this group doesn’t come into question, today just wasn’t our day for whatever reason and we’ll have to look into it.

“We are what we are. We’ve proven in the past that we’re a very resilient group and nothing has changed.

“I thought the performance at times was good, but we switched off at vital points of the game and really let them take control of it particularly in the first half.”

“It’s unfortunate, if Fraizer Campbell had managed to get his shot off the momentum would probably have well and truly swung in our favour.

“But it wasn’t meant to be and they went down the other end and got their third.”

Jedinak added: “West Ham outmuscled us to a certain extent, so we need to be a little bit more resilient in defence and we made it easy for them for their goals.

“We need to rectify that quickly, get this game out of the system and move on to the next one.”
