Crystal Palace striker Kevin Phillips will leave the club in January in the search for first team football.

The 40-year-old, who converted the penalty at Wembley that fired the Eagles into the Premier League, has been linked with a move to Wolves of League One.

Phillips, who lives in the Midlands, has turned out for Aston Villa, Birmingham and West Bromwich Albion, and he is keen to return to a club nearer home.

Last season, Phillips, who will retire at the end of this season, made 16 appearances scoring seven goals, while this season his role has been restricted to coming off the bench just five times.

He said: “I’ve had a chat with the manager and I will be leaving in January.

“I’ve been travelling for nearly two and a half years and I want to find a club nearer home and I want to be playing football for the last three or four months of my career.

“I’ve had a chat with the manager and he’s fine with that. So yes, I’ll be moving on."
