Brentford sporting director Mark Warburton expects loan striker Jimmy Spencer to make a big impression at Griffin Park.

The 20-year-old signed an initial one-month loan deal on Tuesday to plug the gap left by injured summer signing Farid El-Alagui.

Spencer, who has appeared in the Captial One Cup and the Championship for the Terriers, has spent the past two campaigns on loan at League Two outfits Morecambe and Cheltenham – scoring a total of 18 goals in
47 appearances.

And Warburton insisted he could repeat that sort of scoring form in League One.

“He has performed well and scored goals in League Two and is producing impressive performances at Development Squad level,” he said.

“We had to fight off stiff competition from other League One clubs to get him to Griffin Park.

“Everyone is looking forward to working with Jimmy and seeing him in a Brentford shirt.”

The Bees have been in the hunt for extra firepower for some time, with boss Uwe Rosler frustrated by his team’s inability to make their dominance count.

Brentord, who remain in the League One top 10, took the lead through Harry Forrester at the weekend, but could not capitalise on a host of opportunities as they fell victim to an injury time sucker punch from the hosts.

And Rosler wants his men, who have drawn Southend in the southern artea quarter-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, to be more streetwise for Saturday’s trip to Doncaster Rovers.

“We do not kill games off, that, and our naivety, is our problem.

“At no stage of the game were Scunthorpe in it.

“This is seventh or eighth time we have sat here like this this season, talking about the same issues.

“I am happy because we are controlling games home and away.

“We control games, we dominate, we do so many things right. But, on the other side we are not learning quickly enough.

“We are happy with the squad we have but at times I would like a bit more experience, a bit more knowledge of the game.”
