Szczesny wants to stay a Bee

On-loan Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny wants to stay at Brentford for the rest of the campaign after admitting match experience is an important part of his education.

The 19-year-old Polish international has been in sparkling form since switching to Griffin Park nearly three months ago keeping a host of cleansheets in a series of man of the match performances.

Boss Andy Scott managed to secure his services for Saturday’s trip to Oldham Athletic after Szczesny indicated his wish to remain in west London.

And the young Gunner says he wants to extend transfer window prepares to slam shut with the Bees his destination of choice.

“I got called back by Arsenal last week so I had a conversation with him saying I wanted to stay and so he agreed,” he said.

“I’d like a conversation with him next week about maybe staying until the end of the season. Hopefully it will be okay with him.

“I’m really enjoying it here. I get a lot of experience and I am being kept busy all the time.

“At the moment there is no real chance of me being number one at Arsenal, so it is best to be here.

“I can feel the difference between playing for reserves and playing professional football. I’m doing quite well as well, so that is another reason I want to stay.”

Szczesny made some important saves in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Southampton, which came thanks to centre-back Leon Legge’s late header that helped secure him a man of the match award.

The former Tonbridge Angels man has played a major part in Brentford’s revival over the last two months and his goalkeeper believes it is no coincidence opposing strikers have found goals hard to come by.

“He is a fantastic defender. When he a ball comes into the box he heads it a long way. I feel comfortable when he is playing,” he added.

“He was a best player against Southampton and is why we don’t concede goals. Since I’ve come in and been playing with him, we haven’t conceded more than one goal in a game.

“If the ball comes into the box we are not going to concede because Leon and Tommy Smith are there to head it away.”
