Bees boss Andy Scott is confident his side should not be afraid of challenging for a place in the League One top ten, despite lacking the financial clout of some of their rivals.
Brentford pushed league leaders Norwich City all the way in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Carrow Road, that saw in-form winger Myles Weston narrowly miss giving Scott’s improving side a deserved draw.
Fans have seen a dramatic turnaround in the club’s fortunes since a 3-0 defeat at Exeter City in October and the Griffin Park chief insists the revival is something that can continue until the end of the season.
Irrespective of whether January sees him strengthen his squad or not.
“Overall we’ve got to accept we are a mid-table side at the moment, but there is no reason why we cannot push on and upset a few teams and get in the top ten and push on from there,” he said at the weekend.
“We’ve got quality and the attitude and work rate and a team that is capable of improving to the end of the season.
“There is a massive gap between League One and League Two and if you don’t improve as a squad you get left behind.
“It is all about improving and getting further up the league. I’m all for doing it with the players here and I’m more than happy to take this lot with me.
“I’m ambitious and all the lads in there are disappointed because they are ambitious too and want to upset the big sides.
“We won’t panic buy, we want to make sure we get the right player in and make sure he gives us another option to what we have at the moment.
“If that becomes available then great, if not we’ll get on with what we’ve got.”
