Brentford took a second consecutive giant step to Championship safety last night, and has boss Dean Smith eyeing a top 10 finish.

A three-goal burst in a 19-minute spell proved too much for seemingly doomed Bolton Wanderers as the Bees ran out 3-1 winners at Griffin Park.

Lasse Vibe bagged a brace to take his season’s tally into double figures, and Nick Yennaris scored his second goal in as many games.

The three points came hard on the back of Saturday’s 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest, and there is now a 12-point gap between the Bees and the dropzone.

Smith said: “If you'd said to me three weeks ago that we'd have two wins on the spin at Nottingham Forest and Bolton Wanderers, I'd have bitten your hand off.

"It means we can go to Ipswich on Saturday and try to make it three wins in a row and then we can be looking at a top 10 finish.”

He added: "I wanted more goals [against Bolton], but with the run of form we've been on I wanted a result and that was the most important thing."

It was not all good news from the double dose of maximum points after Leandro Rodriguez picked up a hamstring injury in the win over Forest.

And while Smith was hopeful that Marco Djuricin would be available for the Bolton game, it did not come to fruition – although he could make this weekend’s trip to Ipswich.

Smith said: “Rodriguez pulled up with a hamstring injury. In my experience that could be three to four weeks and we only have six weeks of the season left.

“John Swift got a nasty gash playing for England U21s and he's walking around in flip flops and can't get a boot on.”
