Brentford boss Dean Smith says his players put right some wrongs with Saturday’s 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

Second-half goals from Lasse Vibe, Nico Yennaris and Sergi Canos opened a nine-point gap between the Bees and the Championship dropzone.

It also sends them in to tomorrow night’s home game against bottom club Bolton Wanderers having arrested a run of four consecutive defeats.

Smith said: “I thought we deserved it. We were very well organised defensively and we restricted their chances.

“We have been on a bad run and the players wanted to put it right. There are fine margins in football. We should have beaten Blackburn two weeks ago and we took our opportunities today.”

He added: “We're proud of all our players who get called up for international duty.

“Lasse Vibe got called up and Denmark have a new manager and he made some really intelligent runs today. I'm really pleased for him and he's a big player for us.”

Prior to the win at Forest, the Bees had won just twice in the calendar year, losing 11 out of 14 games, including the FA Cup.

“We know our recent run of form hasn't been good enough,” Smith said.

“The worrying situation was the teams behind us had found a bit of form and were starting to win games.

“We need to make sure we don't rest on our laurels and keep trying to win games.

“Every game is a big game, and we've got a game against Bolton which we'll do our utmost to win.”

Yennaris’ goal was his first of the season, leading to high praise from the boss, who said: “Nico was outstanding and deserved his goal.

“He's been great since I came here. He was back in central midfield and was outstanding.”
