Liverpool loan star Sergi Canos may have celebrated extending his stay at Brentford with the winner at Reading on Monday, but it was Ryan Woods' effort that made it a day to remember for the Spaniard.

Canos has impressed new Bees head coach Dean Smith and will remain at Griffin Park until the end of the season after agreeing a new deal at the weekend.

The 18-year-old fired home an impressive solo effort in the 72nd minute to give Brentford a 2-1 Championship at Reading on Monday.

But it was Woods' 17th minute opener, also a fine individual strike, that left the Spanish attacking midfielder drooling.

Wimbledon Times:

On form: Ryan Woods scored a fine individual effort on Monday and provided the pass for Sergi Canos to net the winner at Reading

“On the bench, we were, 'Whoa, remember this day'," said Canos.

"It was an amazing goal. I think it was the best goal of the game. Mine was OK, but Woodsy's was unbelievable.”

He added: "My goal was to celebrate the extension of my loan for the rest of the season. I'm very happy here.

“I think I've developed a lot. I couldn't imagine what I'd learned before I came here. I learned a lot every day. Every day is a new day."

Chelsea loan start John Swift is also keen to extend his stay at Griffin Park until the end of the season.

And Smith, who has backed former Chelsea youngster Josh McEachran to find his best form if given game time, would be more than happy to indulge the 20-year-old.

"We're talking with John Swift's agent and Chelsea and we hope to sign him til the end of the season as well," he said.

"They [Swift and Canos] are two bright young lads with good futures ahead of them, who want to develop and are certainly helping us at the moment too."

Brentford are four points adrift of the play-off places after a productive Christmas period thus far and Canos is keen to extend that form into the new year.

"I want to go to the Premier League with Brentford," he said.

"It's the main thing for Brentford and the main thing for me. I have no doubt that we can win promotion. Other teams have to be worried about us.”
