It is fair to say skipper Jake Bidwell is not a regular goalscorer, but he is hoping breaking his duck can open the floodgates for the good of the team.

The 22-year-old, who made his Bees league debut against Hartlepool United in December 2011, scored his first goal for the club in Tuesday's agonising 3-2 defeat at Cardiff City.

The former Everton defender and Chelsea loanee John Swift had levelled matters at 2-2 with minutes remaining after Tony Watt and Kenwyne Jones had put the Bluebirds firmly in charge in the first half.

Bidwell's effort inspired a comeback that ultimately ended in defeat as Jones bagged a stoppage time winner for City.

The captain, who has come close to finding the net in recent weeks, does not want to wait another four years to add to his haul.

"I'd like to think it has been coming," he said.

"I've come close a few times recently and hopefully I won't have to wait another 180 or whatever it is appearances to get another one.

"Hopefully, I will get  a few more before the end of the season.

"We've talked about it before in that it cannot be the same people getting the goals that get us going.

"It has to be someone like me, another defender or someone who doesn't score regularly that chips in."

He added: "Regardless of what happened in the match ultimately we have come away with no points.

"Having got ourselves gack to 2-2, to come away with nothing is disappointing, but we can take the positives from our second half performance."

Midfielders Jota and Josh McEachran both came off the bench in the second half to help inspire the turnaround.

And Bidwell believes their return for injury can only be a good thing with the festiive period approaching.

"They [Jota and McEachran] both added to us when they came on and we finished strongly," he added.

"It is great to see them and Maxime Colin back on the bench because the squad is looking strong just in time fo rthe busy Christmas period."
