Brentford midfielder Ryan Woods is hoping he can keep repaying the faith shown in him by new head coach Lee Carsley.

The 21-year-old was the sponsor's man of the match in Tuesday's 2-0 defeat to Hull City that ended a four match Championship winning streak for the Bees.

The former Shrewsbury Town midfielder has started every match under Carlsley and was instrumental in last Friday's derby win over QPR.

And Woods, who switched to Griffin Park on transfer deadline day, is relishing life under the former Everton midfielder.

"I'm playing in a different position, but I'm enjoying it and playing games and long may that continue," he said.

"Lee [Carsley] saw a little bit of me in the U21 games I've played and in training and he's given me that chance.

"I'd like to think I'm paying him back and long may that continue.

"I've just got to keep putting in the performances, trying to get better in every game and in training and see how it goes."

The Bees had the better of things in the first half on Tuesday, but were unstuck by second half strikes from Andrew Robertson and Sam Clucas as the former Premier League side hit the top of the table.

"We can match anyone on our day," added Woods.

"We needed to take our chances in the first half because with the individuals they have got, they were always going to cause us problems.

"If we can stick to our game plan and playing our football maybe we can get on a four or five match winning streak again and maybe more."

Brentford head to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and even Tuesday's defeat will not dim the memory of last week's derby triumph over Rangers.

"It was absolutely brilliant on Friday. It was a great thing to be part of to get the three points for the fans and the whole club," Woods said.

"I know how much it meant to everybody and the club.

"It meant as much to me as it did anybody else. I think it was 50 years since we last beat them. We've broken that duck and hopefully we can repeat that favour at Loftus Road."

Meanwhile, Brentford co-director of football Phil Giles says defender Raphaël Calvet leaves Griffin Park with the club's best wishes.

The France U20 international spent just over two years with the Bees after signing from French Ligue Deux side AJ Auxerre.

But the 21-year-old made only one first team appearance in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in October 2013.

"On behalf of the club I'd like to thank Raphaël for his efforts as a Brentford player," said Giles.

"He will go back to France and is looking forward to a new phase in his career. We wish him well and hope he can establish himself at a new club in due course."
