Brentford boss Marinus Dijkhuizen admitted his side missed striker Andre Gray following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Burnley – Gray’s new employers.

The 24-year-old signed for the Championship rivals on Friday, but did not feature in the weekend clash.

The solitary goal came mid-way through the first half from a poorly defended corner headed home by Michael Keane.

While Bees huffed and puffed at Turfmoor, they created little in the way of clear-cut chances.

Dijkhuizen said: “We played well in the first 25 minutes. We were pressuring the ball. In the second half we did expend a lot of energy but didn't create any chances.

“Yes. We missed Andre Gray. It is difficult because I think he could have got 25 goals with us. It's good for him. It's good for Brentford too, that it is resolved.

“I was not thinking about that [that I would lose big players when I took the job] but I have to get on with it. There is too much money here in England. You can buy much more easily than in The Netherlands. It's a different world. You have to deal with it.

“The past two games he brought a lot of power to the team and made goals. We have now no 'plan B' on the bench. Philipp [Hoffmann] was struggling a bit in the second half. He's not used to Championship football.”

Brentford return to action this weekend with the visit to Griffin Park of Reading.
