Brentford missed the opportunity to cement their place in the Championship play-offs on Saturday, but boss Mark Warburton is remaining positive.
Goals from Federico Macheda - who was later sent off - and Alex Revell gave Cardiff City a 2-1 win at Griffin Park after Andre Gray had given the hosts an early lead.
Ipswich Town's defeat to Middlesbrough in the early kick off had meant sixth-placed Bees could have put four points between themselves and the Tractor Boys in seventh had they beaten the Bluebirds.
Despite Cardiff finishing the game with nine men following late red cards for ex-Bee Kadeem Harris and Macheda, the Bees were denied any points on a frsutrating afternoon.
And while Warburton was disappointed not to have got something from the game, he felt he could not have asked much more of his men.
"We are in a good place,” the manager told the club's website.
“It is disappointing, but if we had given a poor performance it would be painful.
“We did a lot of things right, but didn’t have enough quality in the final third.
“We lacked a bit of quality with the final ball.
“Irrespective of the men being sent off we dominated the game and had a lot of ball in the final third."
He added: “We didn’t create loads of chances in the first half, but we were 1-0 up and Stuart Dallas had one cleared off the line.
“We looked good for the 1-0 lead and then made two mistakes in the second half, it was as simple as that."
