Brentford are out to secure Championship promotion as much for departing boss Mark Warburton as for themselves, says midfielder Jonathan Douglas.

The 33-year-old penned a contract extension until at least the end of next season on Friday and celebrated with the opening goal in Saturday's 3-1 triumph over AFC Bournemouth.

It ended speculation over the former Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers star's future with his previous deal set to expire in the summer.

Douglas revealed uncertainty over Warburton's future had delayed his contract negotiations, but admitted he had agreed to sign some time ago and was not about to go back on his word.

And, with the manager now confirmed as departing, the Irishman reckons the squad will doing everything in their power to send him off in style and give his management career the perfect fillip.

“He’s a big part of why I signed here because he was sporting director at the time when Uwe Rosler signed me," Douglas told the club's website.

“I think everybody at the club owe him a great deal.

“We’ve got to go into these games hoping to win them and sign him off in a good way.

“He’s going to be looking to his future as well and see what he’s going to do.

"The more games we can win, the better for him.”
