Bees boss Mark Warburton is not going to let speculation over his future affect his side’s push for the Championship play-offs.

The club insisted they were exploring their options should the 52-year-old move on, when it was reported on Tuesday that chairman Cliff Crown had met with Rayo Vallecano coach Paco Jemez to sound him out over the role last week.

The Bees slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to promotion rivals Watford in a game marred by Jake Bidwell’s 38th minute straight red card.

Fans showed their support for the manager at Griffin Park and Warburton vowed to repay their backing by concentrating on the job in hand and guiding Brentford to a top six finish.

“The only focus can be on this team and this squad of players,” he told the club website.

“We’ve achieved so much this season to let it peter out. We have got our targets and we can push forward from here.

“It is nice for the board to say I have turned the heads of other clubs. For an inexperienced manager it is a really nice compliment.

“I’ve got my focus on the job in hand because if I don't do that then I am letting the players down and the supporters down.”

Andre Gray gave Brentford a 1-0 lead early in the second half only for Bidwell’s departure to catch up with them as Odion Ighalo levelled 15 minutes later before striking a 90th minute winnner.

“I’ve seen the replay and there is a trailing leg, but I don’t see the first contact,” said Warburton.

“It is a very, very tight call in a very, very important game. I’m mystified by that decision.

“Jake is devastated in the changing room. We will lose him for three games and we will look at it [appealing the red card].

“A decision of that magnitude is scandalous.”
