For the second consecutive week Brentford secured victory by the narrowest of margins, as an Andre Gray goal gave them a 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Community Stadium on Saturday.

Gray gave his side the lead after half an hour and, despite the home side creating a number of good chances, the Bees could have won by more as they too proved profligate in front of goal.

Brentford looked assured in the opening stages as they passed the ball around well, without creating any decisive chances.

The Seagulls displayed a sharper cutting edge when Inigo Calderon broke free down the right wing, but shot straight at David Button from ten yards.

Minutes later a great cross-field ball from Danny Holla found Sam Baldock wide on the left, but his poor cross to the near post was easily gathered by Button.

Solly March was at the heart of two more chances for the home side, first firing in a shot from the edge of the box which was palmed away to his right by Button, before passing to Jake Forster-Caskey, whose shot over the bar didn't trouble the Bees' keeper.

On the half hour mark Stuart Dallas won the ball just inside his own half and, after a intelligent header got the better of his marker, he raced down the left before picking out Andre Gray, whose shot looped over David Stockdale to put the Bees ahead.

In reply, after a corner on the right, March danced across the edge of the box before firing a low shot wide of the right hand post.

Gray missed a golden chance to double the Bees' lead when Jake Bidwell crossed from the left and the striker headed wide from in front of an open goal.

Just before the break a surging run from James Tarkowski saw him carry the ball to the edge of Brighton's box, before passing to Gray, who shot just wide of the right hand post.

Early in the second half a poor header by Tarkowski allowed Craig Mackail-Smith to shoot from ten yards out, with his effort brining a superb save out of Button.

Brighton were reduced to ten men after an hour when, after winning a free kick on his own bye-line, Lewis Dunk needlessly pushed Jota to earn his second yellow card and his dismissal.

A determined run from Alex Pritchard ended when his shot was blocked by Stockdale, while a minute later Gray glanced a Bidwell cross just wide of the near post.

A great ball from Pritchard found Jonathan Douglas ghosting in at the back post, but his effort was scrambled clear.

Almost immediately at the other end substitute Adrian Colunga unleashed a powerful shot, which was turned behind by Button.

With just minutes remaining substitute Jon Toral should have sealed victory when he broke into the box and took the ball around Stockdale, only to see it get tangled between his legs and cleared by Brighton's defence.
