Brentford's promotion winners send an apology to fans via boss Mark Warburton after Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Colchester United.

Northern Irishman Stuart Dallas, who scored his first goal for the club on the stroke of half time with his side already trailing 3-0, was one of the few to be spared any criticism.

The Bees secured elevation to the Championship on Good Friday and will bring their campaign to a close with the visit of relegated Stevenage.

And Warburton, who labelled the performance as the worst he had seen since arriving at the club as sporting director, insisted his men would more than make up for it with a promotion party on the Griffin Park pitch.

"That was not good enough," said the manager.

"You shouldn't have to pay to watch that performance from Brentford. The only saving grace is we will put it right next week. That was totally unacceptable.

"Our preparation was good. We trained well. We stayed overnight in Colchester, arranged at short notice, to ensure our preparation was spot on.

"I excuse Jonathan Douglas, Alan Judge and Stuart Dallas. But it's no good if seven or eight players don't turn up.

"I said to the players 'what do I say to the media' and this was their words: 'we're not good enough, you shouldn't have to pay for that and we have got next week'. There is no doubt they will turn up next week.

"That's the worst I've ever seen a Brentford team play since I've been at the club.”
