AFC Wimbledon’s George Francomb reckons winning games without playing well is a sign the Dons can sustain a promotion bid this term.

Boss Neal Ardley’s men, currently fifth in League Two host Hartlepool United on Saturday looking to make it three wins in a row after successive 1-0 triumphs at Luton Town and Southend.

And Francomb, who hit the winner at the Shrimpers on Tuesday night, is hoping a return to home comforts will give everyone a lift this weekend.

“We haven’t played as well as we know we can, but it is about going to these places and coming away with the three points,” he said.

“If you are going to do anything in this league, they are the important results you have to grind out with your backs to the wall.

He added: “When we get at home we are the team that has to be on the front foot.

“We can play more attacking football when the crowd is behind us.”
