Wimbledon’s very own Olympic gold medallist Sophie Hosking was presented to the crowd at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday and showed her footballer hosts how to find the back of the net.
The 26-year-old former Kingston Grammar School student and Dons fan, who won gold in the women’s pairs rowing, took the applause at half-time during the 2-2 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge.
Hosking said: “I have supported Wimbledon all my life and when AFC Wimbledon was set up I got behind it and went to the very first game so I have a lot of loyalty for the club.
“It was fantastic coming down. I have wanted to come down since I raced and won, but this was the right time to do it.
“It was great to see everyone and I had such a warm reception.”
Meanwhile, Hosking will be joining fellow Olympic medallist Rob Williams at the London jubilee river marathon on September 15.
The pair will be in the royal rowbarge Gloriana, ahead of the leading race boats, from Richmond to the finishing line at Ham.
