AFC Wimbledon striker Lyle Taylor faces a race to be fit for this weekend’s League Two clash with Accrington Stanley.

The 25-year-old limped out of the 1-1 draw at table-toppers Northampton on Tuesday night having hauled the Dons level with a spectacular equaliser.

However, while the 15-goal striker is touch and go for another top of the table encounter at the Cherry Red Records stadium, boss Neal Ardley is remaining level-headed.

“Lyle came off with an ankle injury, but we don’t know the extent of it yet,” he said.

“He will come in this week and Stuart Douglas [physio] will get to work on him, and we’ll see where we are.”

He added: “But all the players are the same, they want to play and Lyle will do all he can to get fit.

“If you have asked me at 2pm on Tuesday whether Tom Elliott would have been able to play against Northampton, the answer would have been no.

“But he dosed himself up and past a late fitness test, and was excellent. That’s how much all the players want to be involved.”
