Neal Ardley could not hide his disappointment after his AFC Wimbledon side were handed a tough FA Cup opener in last night’s draw.

The Dons face the 450-mile round trip to League Two rivals York City on November 8.

Ardley, who is running the rule over George Oakley and Adebayo Azeez in the Dons U21s match at Cambridge United today [Tuesday], said: “It’s disappointing not because it is York City, but because it is a lot of travelling to play a good team.

“What you’re looking for at this stage is a home tie, it does not matter who it is against.”

He added: “We played York in my first FA Cup game in charge, and Charlie Strutton hit the equaliser for 1-1, then we beat them 4-3 at home.

“That set up that trip up the road [to Milton Keynes] – it was a nice surprise not to be drawn them again this season.”

York City have won just once in all competitions so far this season – at Stevenage in September – but they are the draw specialists having shared the points in nine out of 15 games.
