AFC Wimbledon forward Danny Hylton was left frustrated after failing to score against his former club in Saturday’s defeat to Bury but remains confident the Dons can turn the corner.

Wimbledon have now lost four in a row but the Rotherham loanee was Wimbledon’s brightest player in the 1-0 loss.

He tested former team-mate, 38-year-old former Premier League keeper Brian Jensen, on a number of occasions, including a stinging effort from the edge of the penalty area, which the Dane had to tip round the post.

Hylton spent the first half of the season on loan at Gigg Lane and scored for the Shakers in the reverse fixture, a 1-1 draw in November, and admitted on another day his current side would have racked up the goals.

“It was nice to play against familiar faces and you want to do well against teams that you’ve played for,” he said.

“And today we’ve given it our all but on another day we could have won by three or four goals, and that’s the most disappointing thing.

“We were on top and to not score is disappointing, and then you need to make sure you see them games out, so if you’re not going to score, get a 0-0 and a point, but we didn’t and ended up losing after being on top.”

On what seemed like a personal duel between Hylton and Jensen in the second half, the 24-year-old said: “He’s a good keeper, I played with him so I know all about him, and today he was on top form – he kept them in the game.”

With the games coming thick and fast – Wimbledon head to Newport County tomorrow night [Tuesday] and Fleetwood Town on Saturday – the striker admits there’s no time to dwell on the defeat but that he’s sure the team is good enough to steer clear of another relegation fight.

He added: “I’m sure these results will turn because we’re far too good than what the recent results suggest.”
