Sutton United stalwart Craig Dundas believes securing a vital first win of the season will kick-start their confidence and see the positive results flood in.

The 31-year-old midfielder, who recently passed 200 appearances in a United shirt, says his experience tells him seasons can turn on a single result.

And United need a boost  after a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Borehamwood on Tuesday night and a 2-1 home defeat to Dorchester Town on Saturday left them with no wins and second from bottom in the Blue Square South.

Dundas, who first played for United in 2007, said: “Borehamwood was probably the first time we played badly, up until then we’ve not been over-run by teams – it’s always been very close.

“I’ve been in situations before where we’ve gone through to November without a win but then we’ve scrambled a 1-0 and results have started to come.

“It all stems from confidence. If we can get that win, confidence will come back and hopefully we can turn things around and go on a bit of a run.”

Dundas joined United from Carshalton and, apart from a stint at Hampton & Richmond in 2009, has been a central figure in United’s midfield, making some 208 appearances.

“I’ve been very fortunate with the managers here,” he said.

“They have all seemed to like me as a player and I like the club. It was great to hear the fans chant my name when the announcer told them about the appearances.”

Sutton travel to Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.
