Sutton United manager Paul Doswell has acted quickly to recruit a new goalkeeper after first choice Ross Worner was injured during Saturday’s 3-2 win at Torquay United.

The U’s boss has flicked through the pages of his little black book once again to add experienced shot-stopper Will Puddy to his squad on a month’s loan from League One side Bristol Rovers.

Puddy, 29, is no stranger to the United set-up having been part of the club’s pre-season plans two seasons ago before joining Rovers.

It turned out to be a successful switch for the goalkeeper who signed a permanent deal for the Pirates halfway through that season and played at Wembley against Grimsby Town in the National League Play-Off final of 2015.

He played the whole match only to be substituted in the last minute of extra-time by Rovers boss Darrell Clarke who put Steve Mildenhall in goal for the penalty shoot-out which Rovers won 5-3 in front of 47,029 fans.

Puddy has also had spells with Cheltenham, Salisbury, Bath City and most recently Braintree Town. He goes straight into the team for tomorrow’s home National League game against Boreham Wood (kick-off 7.45pm).

Doswell has also secured the services of former Crystal Palace winger Kieron Cadogan who was recommended to the club by former U’s coach Jamie Lawrence.

Tooting-born Cadogan has been playing for Swedish side GAIS alongside ex-Sutton defender Stephen Old and has previously appeared for Aldershot Town and Barnet.
