The Kingsmeadow door remains open to striker Jake Kempton, says Ks assistant boss Graham Harper.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster scored seven goals in 24 league and cup appearances last term – one a contender for goal of the season against Met Police in August – but injury curtailed his campaign.

Kempton did not feature at all in the club’s disastrous Ryman Premier League run-in and will not be part of plans for the forthcoming campaign.

But Harper has not given up on the 22-year-old.

“I really like Jake as a person and a player, so you never say never,” he said.

“He just needs to play games and score goals somewhere and he has not been able to do that here.

“He started the season well, but then got injured and could not get fit or sharp enough to start.

“Because we do not have a reserve team it is difficult to get match fit without going out on loan and he did not want to do that.

“You cannot get match fit by sitting on the bench.”
