Carshalton Athletic manager Matt Howard praised his squad's battling qualities after a fourth straight league win on Saturday.

Despite hosts Sittingbourne grabbing a late consolation, two second-half goals by the Robins's top goalscorer Dan Summers kept the Surrey club on the periphery of the Ryman Division One South play-off positions.

And a win against visiting Walton Casuals tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) will put the Robins into joint-second place.

"The conditions at Sittingbourne were atrocious, but I was pleased to see us match them phsyically before our quality came through when we needed it," said Howard.

"It was a shame to concede so late on because I felt we were comfortable throughout, but it showed us the importance of scoring when bossing the play."

Howard and his management team lined Carshalton up in a specific way for the visit to Kent and he applauded his players for bringing his idea into life.

He added: "We knew how Sittingbourne would probably play so, during our last training session, we had the lads work in a particular style and system.

"We were confident rolling it out and we ended up controlling the majority of the match."

The Robins boss is not expecting an easy ride on Monday evening as they chase a fifth victory on the spin.

"I think Walton will provide us a tough test," Howard added.

"They lost at the weekend [4-1 at Whyteleafe], but they are a good attacking side so we'll have to harness our recent form and push for another positive result."
