Corinthian Casuals pulled off the shock of the FA Trophy second qualifying round on Saturday and boss James Bracken believed it was nothing more than his men deserved.

A 93rd minute Terry Murray strike gave Ryman Division One South Casuals a 2-1 win at Ryman Premier League title chasing Leiston to reach the third qualifying round for the first time in the club's history.

It bagged the amateurs £3,250 in prize money as two clubs from Elmbridge - Molesey and Met Police - also progressed on a bumper weekend for football in the two boroughs.

Casuals have had a flying start to the new season to sit seventh in the table, while Leiston are currently second in the league above.

And Bracken was only too pleased to swell the King George's Field coffers once again.

“We came to get a result which I felt we could achieve and we got that, which is nothing less than we deserved," he said.

“I said to them in the changing room that I have an opinion on what it is to be perfect in football, because perfect is not achievable most of the time, but they were perfect - every single one of them.

“They not only battled, but had quality about their game. They had composure too. We’ve scored two goals in a tough place to come.

"Leiston are second in the Ryman Premier for reason. They’re a good side. However, we’ve come here and in my opinion and the opinion of most, we’ve thoroughly deserved to come away with the win.

“Conditions weren’t ideal, but you have to adapt to those and perhaps in some matches this season, we’ve not done that so well.

"But we’ve done it even when the pitch by the end of the game was a slop. We’ve done the right things and played the conditions perfectly.

"We’ve not tried to do things that can’t be done on this pitch. We kept the game simple and stuck to our guns and worked our socks off."

It proved a day of late drama as Molesey came from 3-1 down with 13 minutes remaining to win 4-3 thanks to goals from James McShane, Staf Palmer (two) and Reis Stanislaus, who scored the injury time winner.

Charlie Collins struck in th 90th and 92nd minute to give Met Police a 2-0 win at Canvey Island and Kingstonian suffered late heartache as Dan Bennett's own goal saw them held 2-2 at Dorchester Town.

They entertain Dorchester tonight for a place in the third qualifying round.
