AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley cut a disappointed figure after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Oxford United.
The result leaves the Dons 14th in the League Two table, while United climbed into the top three.
Ardley’s men had lost just once in the past six games, but on an afternoon of scrappy football they could not extend the record.
“If we drawn 0-0, I would have said it was an average performance where we have dug out a good point,” he said.
“But a long range shot has decided it and we did not do enough to get anything out of the game.
“I am overly critical of my team because I know what we’re trying to achieve. In recent weeks, we’ve looked good going forward and I thought we could have caused Oxford problems, but we did not do it.
“We did not carve them open and we did not have that edge that we’ve had recently.”
