Enfield Town inflicted a heavy 4-0 defeat on Leatherhead at the Queen Elizabeth II stadium on Saturday.

The visitors started well enough, with Tanners boss Richard Brady fielding the same 11 that had recorded a 3-0 win in midweek against Grays Athletic.

However, there was to be no victory this time round, leaving Tanners 17th in the Ryman Premier League table.

Matt Smart tested Town keeper Nathan McDonald with a long range effort before Vas Karagiannis hit a free kick just wide of the post.

But Town threatened the visitors every time they moved forward with Leatherhead keeper Louis Wells tipping Dernell Wynter’s shot over the bar, and Claudiu Vilcu firing wide after Harry Ottaway’s initial shot was blocked.

Tanners had a chance to take the lead on 19 minutes - Karagiannis whipped in a cross from the left and Tashan Adeyinka’s stab at the ball was deflected behind for a corner.

But Leatherhead were left heavily exposed whenever they lost possession in midfield.

On 21 minutes Town’s Ricky Gabriel was allowed to travel half the length of the pitch unchallenged and was only denied a goal-scoring opportunity by a last-ditch tackle from Phil Walsh.

The early warning signs were there as Town exploited the growing gaps in the Tanners’ defence to take the lead on 23 minutes.

Tayshan Hayden-Smith picked out an unmarked Wynter with a ball through the middle.

The Town striker tested Wells with a powerful shot which the Tanners keeper could only parry into the path of an advancing Tyler Campbell, who scored with ease on the follow up.

Leatherhead fought back but wasted good opportunities before half-time with two poorly delivered free-kicks from Adeyinka and Karagiannis.

On 50 minutes Kiernan Hughes-Mason made a good break down the right, sending a fine delivery into Town’s penalty area, but Karagiannis was unable to get control of the ball and his shot flew high over the bar.

Town scored a hotly disputed second goal on 56 minutes. A ball played forward found Wynter in an offside position – but crucially, not interfering with play - as Ryan Doyle advanced unchallenged before firing past Wells. Leatherhead’s protests were waved away and the goal was allowed to stand.

The final half hour was mainly one-way traffic, as the visitors’ heads dropped.

Town were gifted a third goal by a hesitant Tanners defence on 66 minutes.

Gabriel was allowed to make a cross from the by-line, picking out an unchallenged Wynter in the six yard box who had sufficient time to turn and shoot past Wells from close range.

Leatherhead’s miserable afternoon was completed as Town scored a fourth goal with ease on 78 minutes.

The visitors failed to stop a break from Campbell down the middle and the Town midfielder picked out an advancing Ottaway, who was left with the simple task of putting the ball into an unguarded net.

It could have been even worse for Leatherhead as Wells pulled off a couple of fine saves to deny Town’s Corey Williams and another from Wynter in the final minutes.
