AFC Wimbledon fans can get up close and personal with their heroes next week when boss Neal Ardley holds an open training session – and the boss is behind the idea.

Not only can fans watch the players train, Ardley will be talking through the sessions so fans can get an insight into how it all comes together.

But the day is not just about training, as there will be attractions in and around the Cherry Red Records stadium all day.

There will also be an extra incentive for Junior Dons to attend as they will be entered into a prize draw with two chosen at random to have their photographs taken with the first team squad.

Ardley said: “I’ve done this kind of thing at other clubs and it is a great way of getting that bond with the community and fans.

“There will be plenty of things around the ground for the young fans, and I am sure they will also want to watch us training.

“During the sessions, I’ll pick up a microphone and tell the fans exactly what’s going on.

“That way they will understand the intensity of what we’re doing and where it fits in.”

He added: “Everyone is excited at the beginning of a season, and this is a great way to give the fans an insight into their club.”

In addition to Ardley’s training talk-through, the AFC Wimbledon Foundation will be running a Q&A in the middle bar for U16s, with the boss.

Haydon the Womble will be on hand for photos and the community team will also be staging an inflatable shoot-out, a beat-the-keeper competition and hosting a football tournament at the Kingsmeadow athletics centre.
